1. What are your talents?
My talents are drawing and memorization. I started singing my my elementary school's choir in 1st grade and pursued it for 6 years, until I transferred to public school. I kept singing individually until I joined the ROHS choir in 9th grade, and used that skill during drama club for the past few years. I use my memorization skills in drama, and even passively, like when I’m listening to music and pick up the lyrics. 2. What do you enjoy doing? I enjoy writing, especially when I feel a flow of words that help me to express my feelings or even to discover myself through a story. I also love to write poetry when I’m more in touch with my thoughts, and spinning metaphors to add a layer of mystery to my identity. I also really like to draw and listen to music. I’ve been drawing since I can remember, and continue to push myself to improve and take inspiration from others. I usually listen to music when I draw or when I’m finishing homework, and it helps me to focus well and even sometimes gives me inspiration when I’m writing. 3. What skill or talent would you like to improve? I’d love to improve my leadership skills, which I’ve been working on recently with my position as the paint crew head in the drama club. I hope to build up my confidence with this experience and continue to grow in this aspect by becoming an officer senior year. 4. What are you already doing that could be part of your CAS programme? My time in the upcoming drama club would be a good addition to my CAS experiences, as, and I’m aware from past involvement, it can be a demanding project, and takes a lot of energy and passion to pursue. Also, my job offers quite a few volunteer opportunities that would not only be awesome to participate in, but also use for service experience. 5. What would you like to be involved in? I’d like to get involved in more volunteering, especially for my own community and the underprivileged that reside within it. I’ve always had an urge to help others, and I’d like to be more active in that regard. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to achieve that through the programme. |
6. Describe a time when you helped someone or helped with a cause.
During the rise of the pandemic, I participated in social equity rallies that promoted empowerment and a push towards justice. I also do my best to be an emotional support for my friends and family, as I like to tell them that I’m there if they need anyone to talk to, and check in on them regularly. 7. Describe a time when someone helped you. One time that really stands out to me is about 6 years ago, when I was 9 years old. My siblings and I got separated from our parent in a crowd, and a man helped us reunite. I never got to catch the man’s name, so I remember him as “The Man in the Wolf Shirt” in my memory. 8. About what issues do you have concern or feel most passionate about? I’ve always had an urge to help others out, whether it be listening to how their day went or doing favors. That’s why I want to keep helping people through my hopeful career in the medical field, where I can put my leadership skills to use while doing my best in the interest of others. I think we need to bring more attention to the heroes currently in the field, especially in the case of the ongoing pandemic, as these people put their lives and energy on the line to take care of others’ well-being. 9. What would you like to learn more about? I’d like to learn more about psychology, or the patterns and behavior of the mind, especially to be able to address the concerns that my friends come to me with. It’ll give me a better understanding of the mental issues they may be facing, and how to help them individually, or to refer them to a professional that can help handle, or even resolve, their issues. 10. What have you always wanted to try but haven't? I’ve always wanted to hone my cooking skills and eventually be able to prepare a meal without using a recipe as a crutch. My limitation has always either been time or fear that I’ll have wasted food during the process, but I just need to take things one step at a time when learning about cooking, and eventually I’ll be able to trust my instincts more and not have to rely on the recipe. |
